Justin Schmaltz
Mr. Schmaltz has spent his entire career working in distressed situations and transactions, including Chapter 11, global restructurings, and operational turnarounds. He has worked with clients across a range of industries, including technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT), commercial real estate, publishing, sports and entertainment, energy, mining, automotive, transportation, retail, pharmaceuticals, and banking and financial services.
Mr. Schmaltz’s notable engagements include advising T-Mobile (in relation to Sprint Wireline), Intelsat, Windstream, Everstream, Qualtek, WeWork, iHeartMedia, Blockbuster, Cengage Learning, Tribune Company (now Tribune Media and Tribune Publishing), Dynata, SandRidge Energy, Swift Energy, Expro, Pioneer Energy Services, Murray Energy, Graceway Pharmaceuticals, and lenders to Delphi Corporation. He has also served as Chief Restructuring Officer of Answers Corporation.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schmaltz spent more than four years with the corporate and project workouts team at Prudential Private Capital (formerly Prudential Capital Group), which manages over $100 billion of private debt, mezzanine, and equity investments.
Mr. Schmaltz earned a bachelor’s degree (concentrations in finance and accounting) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Charterholder. Mr. Schmaltz’s work was recognized by the Turnaround Management Association, which selected iHeartMedia as its 2020 “Mega Company Transaction of the Year.” He was also recognized by the American Bankruptcy Institute as a “40 Under 40” honoree.
