University of Pennsylvania Health System’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Mahoney is talking with A&M’s Managing Director, Larry Kaiser, M.D., FACS, and Senior Advisor, David Shulkin, M.D., about his newly opened Pavilion, a $1.6 billion facility that was designed to be “future-proofed.” Constructing a facility of this magnitude is never an easy feat, but coupled with COVID, Mr. Mahoney shares the lessons learned and innovative ideas implemented to build a first-class facility, while keeping their eye on the future of medicine.
No shortage of attention was paid to detail, including minimizing the transportation of patients. Some of the highlights include every room built to be ICU adaptable, high ceilings to enable WiFi capabilities to advance with technology, easily, and reinforced floors to sustain heavy equipment rolling in and out of patient rooms.
