Part I: To Mandate or Not to Mandate – That is the Question

Even though there is scientific consensus on the high efficiency of vaccines in preventing COVID-19, it has been difficult to persuade the entire U.S. population to get vaccinated. Recently, health systems have increasingly decided to take the difficult step to mandate COVID-19 vaccines. Considerations for patients, health system employees and legal ramifications have to all be considered.

In this podcast, Larry Kaiser, M.D., FACS, Managing Director, and Marthe Haverkamp, M.D., Ph.D., Director, in A&M’s Healthcare Industry Group, spoke with Health System CEOs and a Healthcare legal expert to learn more. Kevin Mahoney, CEO, University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) and Suresh Gunasekaran, CEO, University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics discuss their strategy to mandate, or not, all in an effort to keep their patients and staff safe and operational. Rick Zall, Chair of King & Spalding Healthcare Transactional and Regulatory Practice weighs in on the legal ramifications of mandating vaccines and how to ensure your employees are protected and treated fairly.
