In February, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released its “Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.” NIST aims to provide a structure that organizations, regulators and customers can use to create, guide, assess or improve cybersecurity programs. For organizations that don’t know where to start, the framework provides a road map. For organizations with more advanced cybersecurity protocols, the framework offers a way to better communicate across their organization and with suppliers about management of cyber risks.
