What prompted your return to the firm in February 2024, and how did these factors shape your decision to continue your consulting career?
My return was primarily driven by Forensic Technology Services' (FTS) strategic goals to maintain strong eDiscovery partnerships with corporations and law firms and the unique opportunities that consulting provides. The dynamic nature of consulting projects, the exposure to diverse industries and the chance to solve complex eDiscovery workflow problems were aspects I missed during my hiatus. Furthermore, A&M’s commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative culture and its emphasis on continuous professional development strongly align with my career aspirations and goals. These considerations collectively played a crucial role in my decision to return to my consulting career, convinced it would offer the challenges, growth opportunities and professional satisfaction I sought.
Reflecting on your time at A&M, can you highlight the skills you developed or gained and how they contribute to your current role?
I had the opportunity to develop and hone a variety of skills that have been instrumental in my current role. These skills range from technical to interpersonal. Some of the key skills that I gained during my time at A&M include critical thinking, time management, teamwork and collaboration, active listening and leadership.
What specific factors, including aspects of A&M's culture or opportunities, played a crucial role in influencing your decision to return to the firm?
The foremost factor was the culture. A&M’s culture truly reflects its core values. The collaboration, respect and strong work ethic within the firm’s workforce are empowering and pivotal in my choice to return.
Who are your closest mentors, and what important lessons have you learned from them?
I’ve had the privilege of engaging with many remarkable individuals, each sharing priceless insights that have become indispensable to me. Since returning to A&M, I’ve particularly appreciated the guidance from Rishi Chhatwal. His broad knowledge of legal operations, eDiscovery and experience as an attorney have been instrumental in refining my contributions.
Share your approach to building and maintaining relationships with colleagues and clients. How do these relationships enhance your effectiveness and success in your current role?
Building and nurturing relationships is paramount in cultivating a positive work environment. Authenticity, effective communication, appreciation, trust, mutual respect, and support are vital to fostering solid connections among colleagues and clients. Active listening plays a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining these bonds.
Based on your experience, what advice or insights would you offer to professionals considering a return to A&M or rejoining a former employer?
Reflect on your reasons for wanting to return. Understanding your motivations will help you make a more informed decision. Also, reach out to former colleagues who still work for the employer. They can provide you with insights into changes that have occurred since you left and give you an idea of what to expect if you decide to return. If you choose to return, be prepared for things to be different and be willing to embrace the changes.
How do you balance the demands of consulting with maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and what strategies do you employ to ensure personal and professional fulfillment?
Our line of work is demanding, often requiring long hours and a high level of commitment. This dynamic can pose challenges in achieving a healthy work-life balance. I have discovered that establishing clear boundaries and priorities and adhering to them is crucial for managing client projects, expectations and personal obligations.
