Mr. van Rijnsoever’s expertise lies in investor protection, including the conduct of business rules, distribution of investment products, investment advice product governance, suitability and appropriateness as well as costs and charges. He advised leading European Economic Area (EEA) banks on the implementation of the abovementioned topics.
As a Senior Regulator, Mr. van Rijnsoever was responsible for the supervision of the largest Dutch banks and insurance company.
At the AFM, he was as a project manager responsible for the retail conduct implementation of the EU Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II). Mr. van Rijnsoever’s team provided technical advice to the European Commission on MiFID II investor protection topics, and prepared technical standards, guidelines and recommendations relating to the provisions of MiFID II. These guidelines were applicable to investment services and activities by investment firms and credit institutions.
During his time at the AFM, Mr. van Rijnsoever was the project manager of a project where he was responsible for introducing a comparable cost measurement for asset managers in the Netherlands.
Mr. van Rijnsoever was also responsible for the implementation of the cost & charges in Packaged retail investment and insurance-based products (PRIIPs). His team developed technical advice to the European Commission on the PRIIPs Regulatory Technical Standards.
Mr. van Rijnsoever earned a master’s degree in economics at the University of Amsterdam specializing in mathematical economics and econometrics.
