William Mellis is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Corporate Transformation Services based in London.

With more than 20 years of consulting experience, Mr. Mellis specializes in marketing, sales, customer management and improving customer lifetime value, particularly for subscription businesses, including program delivery, social media, big data, digital and mobile communications. Mr Mellis has worked with clients across a range of industries, including media, telecommunications, retail, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

Most recently at A&M, Mr Mellis developed a strategy that step changed customer growth for the digital division of one of the world’s largest digital marketplaces and delivered a customer retention strategy for the TV division.

For a leading book publisher, he provided strategic advice and assurance on a transformation programme following a large merger. For a global B2Bevents and media/publishing company, he improved the customer management and implemented advanced propensity models dramatically improved profitability and growth and led an acquisition improvement project for one of the world’s largest exhibition companies.

For an Asian PayTV company, he developed an improvement plan for sales and marketing, and created a profit improvement and content evaluation model for a PayTV platform in the middle east. For a U.K. Triple play company, he developed the executive dashboard and KPIs. He also worked on the next generation customer loyalty for a high street retailer.

Before A&M, Mr. Mellis was CMO for Sky Italy (Milan) owned by 21st Century Fox and an Executive at BSkyB PLC for eight years in the U.K. There, he grew the subscriber base by 50 percent and achieved world class retention with a single view of the customer/prospect.

Whilst working for Sky, he created SkyIQ which provided big brands with marketing services including a single view of the customer. One of his clients was News International where data governance was established and the customer data engineered to support the move to subscription and moving content behind the “pay wall.”
Previously, he was a Partner with Ernst & Young and a Senior Vice President with Capgemini. He has led IT, CRM and performance improvement practices and has worked across multiple sectors. Previous clients include Barclays, British Telecommunications, Shell, BAT, United Utilities, Unilever, Syngenta, BNFL, Zurich Insurance, AVIS and British Gas.

Mr. Mellis earned a first class joint honors degree in marketing and operational research from the University of Strathclyde. He is a U.K. national.
