At A&M, he has successfully led pre-acquisition operational diligence of a mid-tier construction company and a large, coal-fired power plant. He is currently leading project management of another large, coal-fired power plant.
A major part of his career spanning more than 20 years was with NTPC, India's largest power-generating utility. While at NTPC, he was responsible for the planning and execution of large power plants. He was also involved in an extensive restructuring program of this entity, including strategy, processes and systems.
He later went on to establish and head the Power & Energy practice for AECOM in India, a Fortune 500 global engineering firm. He was responsible for business development as well as execution of assignments on hydro power projects. During his stint, he also led a study of the gas turbine market in Asia and transmission and distribution planning of two large industrial corridors.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Venkataraman was with Macquarie Infrastructure & Real Assets, a global infrastructure equity fund, where he was responsible for managing a portfolio of $200 million invested in two large, coal-fired power plants and a portfolio of small, renewable hydro plants. He represented the fund on the board and project management committees of these companies and was closely involved in the operations. He was also responsible for undertaking due diligence on potential investment opportunities and successfully concluded a new investment in another large, coal-fired power plant.
He earned a degree in electrical engineering and an MBA. He is also a Certified Project Management Associate.
