Torsten Waack van Wasen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Munich and brings more than 20 years of marketing performance improvement and e-commerce consulting experience in both Europe and the U.S.

He has held senior leadership positions in the retail sector and is widely regarded as an expert in multi-channel retail innovation and performance improvement.

Mr. Waack van Wasen was Chief Marketing and Merchandise Officer for Neckermann.de, Interim CEO for several Ukrainian online startups including prestige.com and topmall.com, and SVP of multi-channel retail for Kaufhof.

He has provided advisory services for retail clients across Germany, Belgium, Ukraine and the U.S. including: Dehner, Hess-Natur, MediaSaturn, OTTO, GIII Apparel, Galeria INNO and KeenOn Fashion. In this capacity, he successfully addressed a range of business issues, from digital strategies and transformation to international expansion and the implementation of new business models.

Mr. Waack van Wasen was also part of the management team that sold Neckermann.de. He was then appointed by the new investors to transform the organization’s marketing processes, driving cost efficiencies while reducing the budget and maintaining the topline. He developed and managed Neckermann’s new online marketplace, leading to a €45 million business within two years.

Mr. Waack van Wasen also renegotiated the retailer’s sourcing contract with Li + Fung Hong Kong, optimizing the supplier pool and restructuring the company’s procurement and commercial operations.

At Kaufhof, he introduced a multi-channel business model and led the creation of its online store. Most recently, he developed and implemented a new sourcing strategy for Otto.de to emphasize the value of several private-label lines, which resulted in the “New York Fashion Boutique.”

Before joining A&M, Mr. Waack van Wasen was managing partner with the New York office of D-Group, enhancing its cross-border business (between the U.S. and Europe) for several retail and fashion companies. He was also co-owner and managing director of Schitto Schmodde Waack in Frankfurt, responsible for the marketing and communication strategies of major accounts such as Ferrero, Brita Filters, Mitsubishi, Neckermann.de, T-Online and Deutsche Börse.

Mr. Waack van Wasen graduated with a Diplom-Kaufmann degree from the Goethe University in Frankfurt. He is fluent in English and German.
