Companies can only get competitive when they get the balance right between risk retention, risk mitigation and risk transfer.
Tom Teixeira is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in London. He joins A&M’s growing Risk Advisory Services practice, bringing nearly two decades of experience in elevating risk management maturity to drive business performance and reduce the Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) for large Global 1000 corporations.

His work spans a range of industry sectors including aerospace and defense, life sciences, metals and mining, and oil and gas.  Mr. Teixeira provides proven leadership and strategic advice to boards and senior executives on the implementation of risk governance and management strategies, as well as business resilience.

Before joining A&M, Mr. Teixeira served as Practice Leader of Integrated Risk Management services for the Willis Group, global insurance brokers, where he was responsible for building and managing the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and insurance alignment services. Some of his achievements included helping BAE Systems define reputational risk to support board reporting needs and working with DRAX Power to identify supply chain risk and insurance product design and placement. In addition, he provided coaching to Saudi Aramco senior management on risk management strategy and implementation and was also involved in developing insurance products and risk assessments to protect clients from supply chain interruptions.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Teixeira led the risk function for Rolls-Royce plc, the global provider of integrated power systems, where he developed and implemented the company’s global ERM strategy. The strategy, which more closely aligned risk management with strategic and financial planning, also quantified the business interruption impact of non-property damage for both internal and external supply chains and improved the corporate reporting process. Mr. Teixeira began his career as Project Manager for the Defense Procurement Agency, the U.K. Ministry of Defense and later served as Head of Risk Management with the Wimbledon-based consultancy, Active Risk, where he developed a governance, risk and compliance based technology offering and related professional services.

Mr. Teixeira earned a master's degree in systems engineering from University College, London and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and energy studies from University College, Cardiff. He was the key author for the Institute of Directors’ 2012 publication: “Business Risk, A Practical Guide For Board Members,” recipient of the 2007 European Strategic Risk Discretionary Award for Excellence in Risk Management, and a contributing author on ERM in the book: ‘Managing Business Risk: A Practical Guide To Protecting Your Business,’ sponsored by Ernst & Young, Zurich Financial Services and Clifford Chance. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish and French.
