Tim Waters is Managing Director and European Supply Chain Practice Lead with Alvarez & Marsal’s Corporate Performance Improvement Practice in London. 

He brings more than 35 years of Supply Chain & Operations transformation experience, 18 of those in advising Corporate businesses worldwide.  Mr. Waters has worked in Operational Management positions in consumer electronics, automotive, healthcare/pharmaceuticals and IT and with clients across a range of industries, including Consumer / Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Food & Drinks, Automotive, Industrial, Aerospace, Apparel Retail, Telecoms and Media. He has performance improvement, business transformation, turnaround, and carve-out / merger experience.

Since joining A&M Mr Waters has led engagements in European retail transformation, offshore Oil & Gas exploration in Morocco / Western Sahara, Airline / Rail Transportation in the UK and European Industrial sectors. He has also carried out ODD work at a variety of mid tier businesses including a Swedish banknote manufacturer, a Norwegian Engineering business a UK Retailer, a German Online Pharmacy and others.

Mr Waters is leading a major transformation in Europe involving all aspects of supply chain transformation, including consolidation of warehouse footprint from 42 to 6 (following a network study), new end to end systems including PLM, supply chain planning and execution, revised organisation, processes and the combination of store and online volumes into an Omni Channel environment. This four-year project is one of the largest transformations in Europe, with improvements in service to next day / same day along with c. €500m of savings.  

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Waters spent 5 years as a Director with KPMG Management Consulting in London, where he worked with Corporate businesses on a variety of cost reduction, e-commerce, supply chain & operational engagements. He worked with FTSE 100 clients globally and has country experience in China, Japan, Russia, South Africa, USA, Australia, Singapore as well as mainland Europe. He personally led engagements involving  cost reduction, ODD, post deal merger integration, operational strategy, relocation of operations to the Far East, operational performance improvement, operating model design, location and network optimisation, warehouse & distribution optimisation, IT systems, multi channel trading, routes to market and ecommerce strategy and fulfilment. His largest engagement was a 7-country cost optimisation programme for a $5Bn ‘liquids in bottles’ manufacturer / distributor. This involved a root and branch cost review of the business across its largest territories with a different strategy, different route to market and different manufacturing strategy in each. In total this engagement saved between 7% and 32% of costs.

Previously, Mr. Waters ran supply chain activities at Panasonic’s European Television Manufacturing, where he led a successful transformation programme involving cost reduction of 17%, new warehouse builds, IT implementation, organisational and process change resulting in ‘best in class’ KPI’s while also running the business. He was Master Scheduler / Transformation Project Manager at Warner Lambert Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals resulting in a Class A accreditation for the business, one of a small number in Europe. He led the supply chain merger of the confectionery (Halls) acquisition into the healthcare business involving extensive European factory and customer integration.

Mr. Waters started his career in the Automotive sector  and held operational roles at tier 1 Automotive suppliers in the UK over an 8 year career. Roles as Production Control Manager for an aftermarket / OEM exhaust manufacturer and Supply Chain & Logistics Manager at a Tier 1 electrical products manufacturer supplying most of the OEM’s in the UK provided an excellent grounding in Supply Chain management principles and practices. Just in Time deliveries on a same-day / next-day basis were routine involving complex integrated systems.

Mr. Waters is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (FCILT) and a Member of The Institute of Operational Management (MIOM).
