He brings more than 13 years of experience within procurement and supply chain. Mr. Schäfer’s primary areas of concentration are leading strategic global procurement projects, realizing savings in procurement and resolving supply chain issues.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schäfer held different positions within Wincor Nixdorf AG, a global leader for IT hardware and software solutions for the banking and retail industry, including CPO Strategic Purchasing Asia, Head of Supply Chain Management Office and Director Global Purchasing.
His main responsibilities encompassed the continual cost optimisation for annual spend of €130 million in Asia, leading major outsourcing projects for complex mechatronic modules and full turnkey products to contract manufacturing service providers / EMS, worth an annual spend of €300 million from Western Europe to South East Asia, China and Eastern Europe. Additionally, he was responsible for the restructuring of the global end-to-end supply chain network (global manufacturing footprint and supplier network) and the design and implementation of the new target operating model (TOM) for Global Purchasing, incl. organization setup, footprint, category management, contract management, supplier quality management, tool management, sourcing process and make-or-buy
Mr. Schäfer has led several international procurement performance optimisation and transformation projects. Such engagements encompassed cost reductions on direct and indirect categories for clients in diverse industries, including manufacturing / industrial goods, automotive, steel, oil & gas, aerospace, marine services, material and product testing services, semiconductors and ship management.
Mr. Schäfer has successfully held interim Chief Procurement Officer positions and lead procurement cost optimisation and target operating model restructuring projects, helping clients to significantly improve EBITDA and organizational performances. Further projects encompassed operational due diligence (ODD) and pre-/post carve out and merger engagements.
During his studies, Thorsten worked with Siemens Procurement and Logistics Services (Siemens Buyside Marketplace / click2procure) in Munich and with the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce in London.
Mr. Schäfer earned a degree in business law (Diplom-Wirtschaftsjurist) from the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, Business Law. A German national, he is fluent in German and English.
