With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Varner has served as a business advisor and in interim senior management roles, including Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sunterra Corporation, Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) of Aloha Airlines, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and CRO of Crescent Jewelers and financial advisor and CRO for PureBeauty. He has also served as a business and financial advisor to a global online travel company, Rural Metro Corporation, Building Material Holding Corporation (BLG) and Accredited Home Lenders (AHL).
Mr. Varner has been a senior financial advisor in numerous complex operational and financial restructurings, including South California Edison, a major steam coal producer and major electric utility companies. He also has extensive experience advising companies and creditors in complex and high-profile situations with operational and financial due diligence and providing transaction advisory support.
As a business and financial advisor, he assisted Fleetwood Enterprises in preparing a business plan and refinancing its debt obligations. Mr. Varner also participated in the recapitalization of a major real estate development company in Los Angeles. He has served in significant roles on numerous turnaround and restructuring engagements, including Southern California Edison, Embassy Suites Hotel Portfolio, Hyatt Regency – Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa, JDSU, Pacific Eyes & Ts, Levi Strauss, Unisil Inc., Clothestime Inc., the Walking Company, Circle K, Fountain View, Inc., Troutman’s Emporium, Interdent, Sun Healthcare, Oakwood Homes Corporation and Imperial Corporation of America.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Varner was the partner-in-charge of the Pacific Southwest restructuring practice of a Big Four firm.
Mr. Varner earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Arizona State University. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
