Rob Southern is a Managing Director in A&M's European private equity performance improvement practice. He brings over 20 years of experience working with management teams to drive performance improvement, often in private equity-backed situations. His main sectors of focus are B2B services and financial services.

Mr. Southern spends most of his time working on operational due diligence and working with management teams on delivering performance improvement.  He has an expertise in commercial operations, which occasionally extends to commercial due diligence in the right situation
He has carried out over 100 due diligence projects. He has scoped out the requirements of due diligence, and "lived with" the results from a customer's perspective.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Southern worked for Livingbridge, a UK mid-market PE fund, where he designed and implemented a value creation projects capability. His team worked across a portfolio of c.35 businesses and £1.5bn of FUM, shaping growth plans, helping teams execute profit improvement. He was a member of Investment Committee. He was involved in a number of exits
As a result, Mr. Southern deeply understands the PE investment lifecycle: the questions that PE will want to answer before investing, the practicalities that management and their PE investors face in delivering performance improvement in a PE-backed setting, and the considerations required to execute a successful exit.

Whilst at Livingbridge, he was heavily involved in determining their B2B services investment strategy, which covered c. 40% of invested capital. He was also investor director for Livingbridge on the board of Carousel Logistics, a high growth asset light contract logistics solutions and 4PL player. Over four years, with the management team, he co-designed and helped to implement a highly successful value creation plan.

He was involved through the lifecycle with a number of Livingbridge's financial services investments, delivering top quartile returns.

Prior to this, Mr. Southern worked for LEK Strategy Consulting for 12 years, covering strategy, performance improvement commercial turnaround and commercial due diligence.  He was a partner there for 6 years, working across both business services and financial services.

Prior to LEK, Mr. Southernwas FD of the UK subsidiary of Ashland Inc, a S&P500 Oil Gas and Chemicals conglomerate for three years.

He started his career training to be an ACA with Deloitte.  He earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Bristol.
