Tom Powell is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Canada ULC in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has extensive experience providing financial advisory services including restructuring, turnaround and corporate finance mandates. Prior to joining A&M in 2011, Mr. Powell spent three years with a Vancouver-based boutique restructuring firm and four years with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

He has worked on a number of statutory restructuring appointments and Court-sanctioned mandates in Canada, including engagements as a Monitor under the Companies Creditors' Arrangement Act (CCAA) and formal insolvency appointments under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Canada) for a wide range of public and private companies. His experience spans a variety of industries which include retail, mining, construction, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality and financial services.

Recent assignments include acting as financial advisor to the senior secured lender syndicate of an oil and gas services company under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, Court-appointed Monitor under the CCAA proceedings of a tungsten mining company, a civil construction company and a publicly listed footwear retailer and Court-appointed receiver of a heavy construction company and an independent living facility for seniors. Tom has also acted as interim Vice President, Finance during the restructuring of a multi-location heavy equipment dealership.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance with distinction from McGill University and holds professional designations as a Chartered Professional Account, a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.

He currently serves as Vice President and a director of the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
