Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gibson was a partner with KPMG LLP and a Senior Vice President/Director of KPMG Inc. where he spent over 30 years, almost all of which was devoted to working in the financial advisory field and, in particular, to providing restructuring and insolvency related services. During his career, he has led KPMG’s restructuring practices in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver and spent time working in Manitoba, Ontario, the US and Europe.
He has been involved in a wide range of government, First Nation and public and private company engagements, including formal and informal investigative, restructuring, business improvement, turnaround and work out mandates and has served on two public company boards. He has significant experience in the hands on oversight and management of operating insolvencies and financially challenged businesses and recently acted as the Chief Financial Officer of Great Basin Gold Limited.
His industry experience includes forestry, hospitality and entertainment, manufacturing and distribution, software development, automotive, agriculture, real estate and construction, mining, oil and gas, death care and financial services. Pocklington Corporation, Loewen Funeral Homes, Doman Industries, A&B Sound, Canadian Cooperative Implements, Versatile Pacific Shipyards, Impax Energy Services, Adanac Molybdenum, Red Corp Ventures, Baja Mining Corporation, Great Basin Gold Limited, Coalmont Energy Ltd and Daewoo Electronics are among some of the assignments in which he has been involved.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Peter joined KPMG in 1981 and is qualified in Canada as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, Trustee in Bankruptcy (licensed in Alberta and BC) and Institute Certified Director and in the US as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Turnaround Professional, Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor and Certified Fraud Examiner.
He has also acted as a presenter at various restructuring conferences, including those of the National Judicial Institute, the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, the Turnaround Management Association and a number of other professional organizations as well as to the MBA classes at both the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary.
Mr. Gibson currently serves on the boards of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Risk Management Association (BC Chapter) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (BC Executive). He was a member of the Corporate Practice Committee of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, and has acted as an examiner in the qualifying processes to become a Licensed Trustee in Bankruptcy and Institute Certified Director. He has been recognized as an expert witness in court, has a reasonable proficiency in French and holds both Canadian and EEC passports.
