He specializes in structuring and executing major change programs, and working with finance functions to improve how they report and support management. Mr. Baird has taken interim leadership roles in finance, operations and transformation and has worked in the telecommunications, technology, retail, apparel, business services and industrials sectors.
Recently, Mr. Baird was interim Chief Operations Officer of a global fashion designer and retailer with £280 million turnover, £50 million EBITDA and 150 retail stores in 30 countries. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, he worked with the leadership teams in the business and parent group to plan, manage and execute a major change program across the business. This program included: moving the business to SAP, building a global shared-service center, centralizing warehousing, restructuring the supply chain organization, moving to a tax efficient legal entity structure and introducing new processes and technologies. He also supported the business in a successful initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange.
Mr. Baird previously served as interim Finance Director of a UK outsourcing business, developing a revised operating plan to conserve cash and retain value in the business and managing a successful sale process. He also worked with an oil drilling contractor as interim Group Cash Controller to lead a major restructuring of cash management activities, before moving into a broader role delivering working capital and EBITDA improvements.
His other engagements have included working with the UK's leading bed company to consolidate manufacturing operations, reduce overheads and increase EBITDA, as well as overhauling the manufacturing site of a printing business to cut costs and increase profitability. Additionally, Mr. Baird worked with the board of a Greek telecommunications company to improve performance management and drive EBITDA growth, and led a London bus operator through a proposed financial restructuring, operational turnaround and successful sale.
Mr. Baird has worked extensively with private equity firms to help management teams in newly acquired businesses build 100 day plans, design and implement reporting and cash flow forecasting, tighten cash and working capital management, and develop and implement EBITDA improvement programs.
Prior to A&M, he was a Senior Project Manager with McKinsey, working with several of Europe's largest companies to develop and implement transformation programs. He started his career with Arthur Andersen.
Mr. Baird earned a master's degree with honors in engineering, economics and management from Oxford University. A U.K. national, he is also a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).
