Kurt S. Knipp is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s North American Corporate Restructuring practice in Chicago.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Mr. Knipp specializes in operations optimization, turnaround and restructuring and revenue growth initiatives. In various advisory and interim C-level leadership roles for underperforming companies, he has led critical initiatives resulting in significantly increased shareholder value. In performance improvement leadership roles, he has mentored cross-functional teams to become change agents and implementers of continuous process improvement. 

Mr. Knipp has worked across the company lifecycle from start-up / launch to late-stage decline and Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. Client ownership structures include public, private equity sponsor and family held with annual revenues ranging between zero and $6B. He has worked internationally in Mexico, Canada, China and throughout Europe.

Mr. Knipp’s Industry experience includes media, SaaS, technology, electronic payments, wholesale / retail distribution, manufacturing, professional services and financial services. His market segment experience includes broadcast radio, Ed Tech, MEP engineering, merchant credit card processing, automotive, plastics, lubricants, green goods, industrial electronics, steel processing and commercial banking. 

Mr. Knipp’s key accomplishments include co-leading an initial public offering and being awarded the Turnaround of the Year Award from the Chicago TMA chapter for his role as CRO / CEO of a troubled plastics manufacturing company. Mr. Knipp recently served as a member of the advisory team for the Chapter 11 restructuring of a $6B revenue public company with $20B of debt.  He previously served as interim CFO for a SaaS technology start-up / launch and as COO of a Chicago-based MEP Engineering firm.

Mr. Knipp earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University where he double majored in computer science and finance. He has been recognized as a Certified Turnaround Professional by the Turnaround Management Association.
