He co-heads A&M’s European Automotive and Manufacturing practice. As a CEO and COO he has led numerous restructuring, reorganization and performance improvement initiatives. He has worked with companies in a variety of industries including: automotive, engineering, manufacturing, distribution, energy, technology and services.
In his most recent assignment Dr. Konzelmann helped a major European automotive supplier to implement its strategy for future production to be centred around its five best cost locations. He was assigned to be the project manager responsible for their largest relocation project. It involved the complete transfer of manufacturing from Germany to Romania and the transformation of the German site into a Centre of Excellence focused on sales, R&D, quality and procurement.
Previously, Dr. Konzelmann was Head of Supply Chain for one of Europe's largest cable manufacturers (€1 billion in revenue) where he lead the restructuring of their Supply Chain organization. His contribution went beyond organizational improvements and contributed significantly to the overall cost savings. He also successfully led an M&A process that enabled the company to gain access to world class technology.
Dr. Konzelmann served as CEO of a leading specialist in hybrid / mechatronic solutions for customer specific electronic modules for automotive and medical applications. There, he designed and implemented the operational restructuring program, incl. PMO.
As CEO of a contract manufacturing company he led operational improvement initiatives, including the introduction of a post-launch taskforce, a lean manufacturing concept and the new setup of supply chain and purchasing activities.
Dr. Konzelmann also served as CEO of an engineering service provider focused on automated body in white production lines for the automotive industry. He was responsible for the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive restructuring program and the repositioning of the company's footprint in the market.
Other assignments include: the implementation of a holistic cost reduction program including the management of the program office, the realignment of R&D activities and processes, the installation of a product management unit and the formulation and implementation of a new sales strategy at a major German robot maker.
Before A&M, Dr. Konzelmann held multiple top management positions within Daimler AG in R&D, Production and Sales in Europe, Asia and North America. He was also responsible for the start-up of an in-house management consulting company “Lean Manufacturing Consulting” for Daimler.
Dr. Konzelmann earned a master’s degree in physics (Diplom-Physiker) from the University of Stuttgart. In parallel, he was enrolled in the executive business administration course at the Fernhochschule in Hagen. He then joined the Max Planck Institute for Metal Physics to work on his thesis and was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart. A German national, he is fluent in English and German and has a basic knowledge of French.
