Prior to A&M, Mr. How spent ten years at Barclays Capital across various senior chief operating officer (COO) roles in investment banking, was an equity capital markets (ECM) origination banker, and also set-up the office of the CEO. His capabilities combine corporate finance origination with business strategy and hands-on operational management.
-He was COO for Global Corporates which was a Joint Venture between the Investment and Corporate bank and was responsible for developing the business plan, proposition model, operating model and roadmap for integrating client coverage and origination for the largest clients globally.
-He led the ECM franchise in the Nordic region and seeded prospective client relationships including partnerships with local Nordic brokers. Completed deals include: Nordex €56m Equity raising, Statoil Fuel and Retail NOK5.4bn IPO, Danske Bank DKK20bn Rights Issue; Telenor NOK 2.1bn Share buyback.
-As EMEA COO for Global Finance and Risk Solutions, he led the integration of Lehman with Barclays’ to create a capital markets financing platform for all banking products (ex M&A) across EMEA. This involved establishing the organization structure, developing key policies and processes, managing business planning, budgeting and performance reporting methodologies including aligning Control and Infrastructure teams.
-As Europe COO for Leverage Finance, he was responsible for strategy, business planning, reporting and management. He also oversaw a €400m fund and €75m co-investment program to participate in transactions with key clients.
After Barclays, Mr. How spent a short stint as an independent advisor. He worked with Credit Suisse Private Bank in Zurich on a strategy and platform review of their UK private bank. He is also an active Angel investor and advisor to various technology start-ups in London and manages the Stanford Angels group in London.
In his early career, Mr. How’s experience spanned operational management roles, private equity fund placement advisory and strategy consulting with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
-At BCG, Mr. How led numerous strategy development, strategic due diligence and post-merger integration projects in Southeast Asia and the UK.
-As a PE placement advisor, he worked with PE fund managers to craft their investment propositions, prepare their due-diligence and marketing materials as well as leading roadshows with potential investors/limited partner.
-Mr. How has also worked for Proton Holdings, Motorola and Shell across various engineering, project management and strategy roles.
Mr. How earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University, and a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Stanford University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has completed an Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD.
