His principal focus is on the domestic and international tax affairs of FTSE 100 companies.
Mr. Thomas recently retired from EY London after 39 years with the firm, 27 of which were spent as a Corporate Tax Partner, where he advised a wide range of leading multinational companies on their U.K. and global tax strategies. He was also the Lead Client Service Partner on all his FTSE clients, having the ultimate responsibility on these accounts for all EY services.
Mr. Thomas has a strong track record of working closely with clients across multiple industry sectors. Adopting a hands-on, commercial approach, he was the Lead Tax Partner on some of the largest and most active EY global accounts. Tax projects included advice on global tax strategy, global compliance, global tax integration post acquisitions, HMRC negotiations and the efficiency of a client’s tax function. His role on these accounts meant that he was typically the main board contact.
Mr. Thomas is well known for his hands-on approach to leading his teams in the marketplace. He built a significant portfolio of clients, from no initial relationship into major accounts and, in the process developed strong, long-lasting, trusted client relationships.
Throughout his career, he has retained his client responsibilities. He led the EY FTSE 100 Tax group of partners until 2011, building a strong team environment. He was then made the leader of the largest market segment, the EY FTSE 100 group, covering all EY services to these clients, a role he performed until 2014. During this period, he also served on the EY U.K. Leadership team.
Keith Thomas is a hands-on leader of his teams, with an inclusive leadership style. He coached and mentored many partners, directors and senior managers and built close working relationships across all service lines. His commercial approach led to long-term, loyal relationships with CEOs, CFOs, Treasurers, Commercial and Tax directors.
Mr. Thomas joined EY in 1979, after gaining a Law degree from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
