Jose Contreras is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Dallas specializing in digital transformation solutions. He works with companies to improve their operating performance and analytical capabilities through process, technology, change management and data improvements.
With more than 28 years of management consulting and industry experience, Mr. Contreras has a proven track record for identifying improvement opportunities, envisioning and designing solutions, developing business cases, and preparing reports tailored to individual client needs.
Mr. Contreras has worked with businesses across various industries including energy, finance, telecommunication, convenience retailing, manufacturing and pharmaceutical.
Mr. Contreras has led on the execution for projects resulting in performance improvement transformation across the industry spectrum. Notably, he designed and developed a digital labor (robotics) solution and methodology for a global equipment manufacturing company which resulted in automation of approximately 24% of back office functions for one shared service location with a five-year savings potential of $35 - $40M.
He led innovation executive sessions to redefine an organizational approach and identify value chain impact that allowed the client to capture additional market share and drive margin uplift of 5-10%
Mr. Contreras has implemented value realization for clients utilizing analytics, customer management and contract management to reverse revenue leakage driving over $127M of revenue uplift.
He has also designed and implemented global driver-based performance management EPM solutions allowing finance and operations to have a common language utilizing operational drivers to plan and forecast their business and manage business performance eliminating five months of the existing process and over 2,100 man hours
Mr. Contreras led a client transformation from a product-focused to customer-focused organization through change management, use of data and analytics, system integration and transformation of organization operating model leading to a customer retention increase of 12% and customer margin gain of more than 20% over a four-year period.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Contreras spent six years with Ernst & Young in Houston, where he most recently served as Principal. While there, he spearhead the firm’s digital labor offering and helped clients transform their organizations by leveraging technology to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs. Mr. Contreras also has held various roles at BP Amoco, Hyperion Solutions and CSC.
Mr. Contreras earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from The University of Iowa and a master of business administration degree from the University of Tulsa.
