Jan Timmermann is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in London.

Mr. Timmermann brings 18 years of experience in managing major business transformations. His primary areas of concentration are merger integrations and separations, rapid results transformation and corporate restructuring. He has worked with clients across a range of industries, including energy, life sciences, business services and technology.

Most recently at A&M, Mr. Timmermann has worked to assess the merger integration synergies of a private equity-backed financial services software firm based out of Switzerland. This involved a comprehensive review of the business and underlying contracts to assess the synergy potential.

In his career, Mr. Timmerman has led the merger synergy validation for two insurance broker companies and the buy-side ODD of a German food processing machine manufacturer. He also led the rapid EBITDA improvement diagnostic for a global private equity-backed healthcare business, which included the identification and scope of projects estimated to generate €18.4 million benefits in 18 months and €26.7 million (incremental €8.3 million) by the end of 36 months.

He has led a merger integration of two private equity-backed portfolio firms that deliver financial support solutions to the air travel industry that resulted in $23.2 million synergies validated, and $8.9 million of reoccurring synergies on a reoccurring basis delivered in its third month of implementation.

For a business transformation and cost reduction program with a global IT services firm, Mr. Timmermann designed/implemented a new Target Operating Model, outsourced functions to low cost near-shore and offshore centers, redesigned and simplified staff Ts&Cs and ultimately reduced costs in 19 EMEA country operations by over 15 percent of regional expenses.

Mr. Timmerman also led a cost reduction diagnostic and implementation for the U.K.’s largest private equity-owned acute healthcare provider BMI, identifying cost reduction and revenue capture opportunities in excess of £45 million, equivalent to an 80 percent EBITDA improvement with half of benefits delivered within the first 12 months.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Timmermann worked Deloitte’s transactions team, where he focused on working with boards in executing complex corporate transformations, separations and mergers. Earlier in his career, Mr. Timmermann worked at PA Consulting in the Business Operations and Performance practice, where he advised clients on operational performance improvement. Prior to this he was at Procter and Gamble focusing on finance transformation.

Mr Timmermann earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Royal Holloway College, University of London and qualified as a Management Accountant with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He is a British/German national, and is fluent in English and German.
