Currently at A&M, Mr. Novaes is leading a major financial restructuring on behalf of a large infrastructure player, comprising road concessions, port, airport and other diversified businesses.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Novaes was a CFO for large companies in Brazil. He was the financial and administrative leader of large teams in sectors such as commodities, pulp, sugar and ethanol, real estate, petrochemical, cosmetics and media. Mr. Novaes worked for Brazilian companies supporting the restructuring of their operations, processes, capital structure and debt portfolios, leading negotiations with banks, legal firms, advisors and investors.
Throughout his career, Mr. Novaes was responsible for several debt, equity and M&A transactions on behalf of the banks and companies he worked for, raising capital from diversified sources inside and outside of Brazil. He played a significant role in the combination of businesses in the Brazilian petrochemical sector (by merging five different companies) and in sugar and ethanol (by combining the operations of two large companies). Mr. Novaes also conducted the growth and expansion strategies of two companies in the real estate sector.
Mr. Novaes earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), a post-graduation degree in finance from Fundação Dom Cabral, and a degree in advanced management from INSEAD. Mr. Novaes is currently a professor of finance at Insper (a Brazilian higher education institution focusing on business, economics and engineering). He is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French. Mr. Novaes is also a Board Member at Instituto Ayrton Senna (a non-profit institution supporting public education initiatives in Brazil).
