Gwendolyn van Tunen
Ms. van Tunen’s primary areas of concentration are compliance, conduct and behavior, integrity risk management, board dynamics, operations and audit. She has worked with clients across a range of industries, including banking, education, technology, public sector and heavy industry. Ms. van Tunen has been a lecturer and has published on governance and culture and conduct.
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. van Tunen spent 23 years with ABN AMRO BANK NV, most recently as Chief Compliance Officer, responsible for the global compliance, conduct, privacy and security, and integrity functions, managing over 350 professionals across 15 countries and serving as the key liaison between the bank and all regulatory and supervisory authorities. Ms. van Tunen transformed the compliance organization into a risk management department and introduced a conduct risk monitoring framework for root cause and predictive analyses. She used artificial intelligence to support the bank’s regulatory requirements and risk control framework.
As Chief Governance and Company Secretary, Ms. van Tunen managed the design and implementation of new corporate governance during the bank’s take-over and merger. She handled statutory and governance-related activities, managed the group strategic agenda during the transition, oversaw decision-making and information management, and upgraded the worker council into an employee board. Before that she held a number of management positions mostly in Wholesale Banking. Ms. van Tunen started her career at the Dutch National Bank (DNB); was an auditor at Hoogovens Groep BV (now Tata Steel); Head of Internal Operational Audit and Operational Audit manager at Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB); and an internal auditor at Royal Philips.
An operational auditor by training, Ms. Van Tunen earned a degree from the Faculty of Economic Science & Econometrics, University of Amsterdam and an executive master’s degree in internal audit and compliance. Ms. Van Tunen is fluent in Dutch and English.
