Mr. Althaus has led assignments for banks, financial investors, shareholders and their companies.
He has expertise in the areas as set out above in accordance with standards issued by the German Institute of Public Auditors (Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland e.V., IDW) as well as different rules of arbitration. In this context, Mr. Althaus is also appointed by the German Chamber of Certified Public Accountants (Wirtschaftsprüferkammer, WPK) as arbitrator. Mr. Althaus has acted as both independent expert and party-engaged advisor.
He has worked with clients in a wide range of industries and predominantly on assignments in Europe, the United States and Asia. Mr. Althaus has led approximately 200 projects across several industries providing:
Expert opinions in connection with shareholder disputes to avoid company crisis situations and/or insolvency proceedings Expert opinions based on shareholder-management disputes in connection with the directors' and officers' liabilities Expert opinions relating to supplier-customer disputes/relationships Comprehensive litigation support and several expert opinions in complex post-M&A disputes pertaining to the determination/adjustment of the purchase prices of the targets as well as post-transaction crisis situations Expert to the supervisory board of a listed company with regard to the legal disputes of the company
Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Mr. Althaus was a senior manager with a Big Four firm and served as a partner with a major interdisciplinary auditing company, as well as a managing director for a mid-cap investor relations advisory firm.
He earned a degree in business administration from the Goethe University Frankfurt (Diplom-Kaufmann) and is German Certified Public Accountant (Wirtschaftsprüfer). Mr. Althaus is a member of the WPK, the IDW and the Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit e.V. (DIS). A German national, he is fluent in German and in English.
