Colin Gater is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Asia Transaction Advisory Group in Hong Kong. He brings more than 15 years of transaction advisory and business advisory experience across a broad range of sectors including consumer goods and retail, distribution and logistics, building materials, engineering, manufacturing, oil and gas and infrastructure.

Mr. Gater has worked on projects across Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and North America and has experience building and reviewing financial models for a number of purposes including M&A activity, appraisal of cost saving initiatives and major capital expenditure.

Notable Asia transactions that Colin advised on include the sale of a medical devices manufacturer in China; the carve out of a packaging business with major operations in China from a listed conglomerate; the carve out of a precision engineered components business from a listed conglomerate; the delisting of a Pan Asian listed precision engineering business; the acquisition of a chain of pizza restaurants in China; and the sale of a Singapore/China based consumer electronics manufacturer.

In addition, Mr. Gater has advised on vendor due diligence for the sale of a supplier to the U.K. house building industry, due diligence in relation to the sale of a U.K. based European premium health club operator and review of a large tour operator and airline.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gater spent three years in the M&A team of Travis Perkins Plc. Previously, he served on KPMG’s transaction services team for four years (one year in London and three years in Melbourne). At KPMG, he spent three months on secondment to KPMG’s advisory team in Jakarta and four months on secondment to the corporate development team of Weir Group Plc.

Mr. Gater earned a bachelor’s degree (with honors) in human geography from the University of Reading. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
