Mr. Friis specializes in strategy, risk management, regulatory compliance, operational improvement and restructuring. With a focus on financial institutions, he has led multiple large scale transformations, often with a multinational scope that included Americas, Europe and Asia. His financial services experience includes retail banking, institutional and retail brokerage, credit cards, mortgage banking, SME banking, corporate banking, transaction banking, investment banking as well as insurance.
Currently, Mr. Friis is helping clients navigate the opportunities and challenges arising from regulatory change, new technologies, and changing customer behaviors. Recently, he assisted clients with the implementation of several regulatory reform requirements for derivatives as well as related risk management models, data repositories and analytics.
In his career, Mr. Friis’ has advised a major investment bank on a multiyear global program to meet multiple new regulatory requirements related to derivatives and SFTs, build of integrated analytics platform and modelling of replacement cost for stress and resolution scenarios. He also led the post-merger integration of customer-facing processes, product portfolios and supporting IT architecture for a major European finance company.
He executed a corporate banking growth initiative that increased cross-sell of cash management services to clients by 50 percent and led the re-engineering of a major mortgage bank in preparation for an IPO. Mr. Friis also led a global revenue enhancement program for a major financial services company that generated $600 million in new revenues within two years and served as interim CEO during the recovery of a distressed $500 million company.
Prior to A&M, Mr. Friis served as VP at ITOCHU International, overseeing strategy, M&A and business performance improvement. Other past roles include, U.S. financial services practice head for PA Consulting Group, managing director with HighQuest Partners LLC and managing director at Citigroup, including two years in a role as their global innovation head. He began his career at Accenture.
Mr. Friis earned an MBA from Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA (Valedictorian), a bachelor’s/master’s in economics and finance from the University of Copenhagen and a bachelor’s degree in international business from Copenhagen Business School.
He has held teaching positions at the University of Copenhagen and The Danish Banking Association’s Training Center.
