Mr. Garner is an experienced retailer with an exceptional record delivering improved business performance within buying, retail proposition, capital investment and site location. Mr. Garner specialises in predicting top line performance, evaluating the commerciality of large store network capital investment programmes, removing costs but limiting lost turnover and increasing customer conversion. He has experience advising international retail market entry in the U.S., Continental Europe and Asia Pacific.
Most recently Mr. Garner has acted as interim Global Real Estate Director for The Body Shop for a year transforming the occupancy cost base in six key global international markets. Following this he has been retained to develop the new team and provide a strategic investment Global Roadmap.
Prior to A&M, Mr. Garner had 20 years senior management experience at M&S and was responsible for the creation, development and implementation of U.K. retail property portfolio strategy, new formats such as Simply Foods and ‘Gateway stores’ - supporting the accurately evaluated delivery of a £1 billion capital investment: contributing substantially to deals that have saved M&S millions in occupancy costs.
Mr. Garner has nearly 15 years of consulting experience including five years at Deloitte serving as Head of Site Location Services, helping international clients improve the performance of their store portfolios.
He delivered a European multi-channel distribution strategy to support the recovery of the Crocs brand in Europe focusing on the German, French, U.K. and Benelux investment opportunities - subsequently retained for a further 12 months as Interim European Development Director to rollout 40 boutiques.
Mr. Garner. evaluated the entire Woolworths portfolio through the Administration process, maximising the return from 870 store disposals.
For the Board of Thomas Cook, he delivered a review and execution programme to rationalise the U.K. portfolio and was also retained by Unilever for three years—supporting the creation, development and execution of a global multichannel brand—including boutique openings in France, U.K., North America and appraisal of Far East markets.
Other retail clients have included Prệt a Manger, Casual Dining Group, L’Occitane, Swarovski, Charles Tyrwhitt, and NKUKU. Mr. Garner has also advised investors and developers including Hammerson, Intu, Aviva, LXB, and BMO Real Estate.
