He specializes in financial restructurings and operational turnarounds. His primary areas of concentration include in and out-of-court restructuring, interim financial management, liquidity and working capital management, business planning and forecasting, and performance improvement.
With nearly 15 years of restructuring experience, Mr. Lal has assisted clients across a range of industries including retail, consumer products, manufacturing, media, diversified financials, homebuilding and education.
Most recently at A&M, Mr. Lal was involved in the Toys “R” Us restructuring, where he primarily focused on liquidity and working capital management for the U.S. and international businesses. He also developed and managed the company’s global budgets and assisted the management team in raising more than $3 billion to finance the restructuring process.
Mr. Lal’s also served as advisor to Golfsmith, formerly the largest specialty golf retailer in North America. He advised the company on in vs. out-of-court strategies, restructuring alternatives and liquidity management, and finally advised the company through its sale process in Chapter 11.
Additionally, Mr. Lal has served in various advisory roles to distressed and underperforming companies undergoing restructurings and performance improvements. He has been responsible for developing and managing budgets and financial forecasts for one of the largest private food manufacturers in the country, assisted in managing and selling the commercial banking platforms at Lehman Brothers, interim budget and treasury management for the New Orleans Public Schools, advised creditors to TOUSA (homebuilding) and served as Financial Advisor to Vertis Communications.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Lal spent three years at Bank of America, where he managed operations initiatives to streamline the processing of consumer loans and deposits. He also worked at Altria Group (former parent of Kraft Foods and Philip Morris), where he managed economic analysis for various strategic initiatives for food and tobacco.
Mr. Lal earned an MBA from Yale University, and a bachelor's degree in economics from Delhi University, India. He is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor.
