Scott Powers, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Business Consulting, works with companies to design and execute strategies for financial and operational performance improvement. His primary areas of focus include interim management, formulating business strategy, finance strategy and execution, supply chain improvements, outsourcing, merger and acquisition valuations and due diligence, divestitures, and venture capital financing. For more than 20 years, he has lead teams in creating innovative solutions for complex problems in a variety of diverse technology businesses.
At A&M, Mr. Powers most recently served as interim SVP of Operations for a $1.5 billion optical communications and test and measurement company, where he was responsible for performance improvement in gross margin and cash flow. Specific results included $5 million and 8 percent of gross margin improvement per quarter in addition to $70 million of working capital cash improvement. The client enjoyed record profits and cash flow improvements.
In addition, Mr. Powers served as interim SVP of supply chain for an $800 million consumer products company backed by private equity funding. In this role, he was accountable for all operations, supply chain, sourcing, planning, quality and inventory. The client enjoyed a 40 percent and $50 million inventory reduction, while improving on-time delivery performance.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Powers was a Director of Finance with Intel Corporation, where he lead the firm's M&A Finance organization and was responsible for acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, M&A integration, venture investing, and new business incubation. In his 17 years with Intel, Mr. Powers led supply chain, manufacturing, business unit, accounting, and international finance organizations. His notable accomplishments have included establishing a multi-billion dollar Flash memory joint venture; saving shareholders several billions of dollars by reengineering the procurement function; successfully ramping the Costa Rica manufacturing site to record revenue and cost performance; and achieving corporate Sarbanes-Oxley certification without material weaknesses. Mr. Powers also served as the CEO and CFO of a $20 million technology startup company.
Mr. Powers holds bachelor's degree and master's degree in business administration from Arizona State University. He is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
