Founded in 1980, Veterinary Pet Insurance grew to become the largest health insurance plan provider for domestic pets in the United States, advancing a mission to help end "economic euthanasia" of animals. While VPI experienced surging growth, its financial reporting and other business processes had not kept pace with the expansion. This hindered the company's ability to complete an annual audit and file statutory financial statements. In July of 2004, Alvarez & Marsal was called upon to work closely with VPI to compete near term filing requirements as well as establish a strong foundation to support long term strategic planning. Over the course of the engagement, A&M guided VPI through the financial statement preparation and reporting process; identified business valuation alternatives and potential market opportunities; developed a new strategic business plan; and oversaw the hiring of talented permanent management to take the company forward. Under A&M's leadership, VPI successfully navigated a difficult period of transition, accelerated its growth prospects and set the stage for long-term future success. |
