Sees Continued Demand for Advisory Services Combining Big Four Experience with Operational Expertise
New York, NY - October 5, 2009 - As demand for its specialized advisory expertise continues, Alvarez & Marsal's Transaction Advisory Group has expanded its national practice with the addition of eight professionals. The firm has also added two senior tax professionals specializing in transactional matters. A&M now has more than 150 professionals in the U.S. alone who are dedicated to private equity services, encompassing transaction advisory, performance improvement, tax advisory and corporate finance, among other strategic offerings.

Joining A&M's Transaction Advisory Group in New York are Rob McCarthy as a senior director, Andrew Walshe, Jeremy Nanus, and Peter Gougousis as managers, Mike Glatzer as a senior associate and Jack Duggan as an associate. Joining in Boston are Mike McDonnell as a manager and Joe Zugale as a senior associate. In addition, joining Alvarez & Marsal Taxand are Christopher Howe as a senior director in New York and Patrick Hoehne as a director in San Francisco.
Mr. McCarthy previously served as a director with the transaction services practice of KPMG LLP in New York and in the UK where he led financial and accounting due diligence projects in the financial sector, advising large cap and middle market private equity investors as well as major domestic and overseas diversified financial entities engaged in leveraged buy-outs, acquisitions and divestitures. Prior to that, he worked with Lehman Brothers in London and Frankfurt and also with the commercial banking arm of Alliance & Leicester Bank Plc in the UK. He is a chartered accountant accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
Mr. Walshe formerly was a manager in the transaction services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP's Washington DC office. He worked with strategic and financial buyers both domestically and internationally. Mr. Walshe has experience in both buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence services. Before that, he served in PwC's assurance and business advisory services practice, primarily working with energy clients. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Nanus previously served as a vice president with the transaction advisory services / due diligence practice of Duff & Phelps and specializes in providing financial and accounting due diligence advisory services to private equity and strategic acquirers. Earlier in his career he was with the information, communication and entertainment group in the audit practice of KPMG, LLP. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Gougousis was formerly a manager with the transaction services practice of KPMG LLP, where he analyzed transaction opportunities and advised both strategic and private equity clients, gaining particular expertise in the financial services industry. Before that, he served in KPMG's audit practice working on public banking and asset management audits. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Glatzer previously advised troubled companies, equity owners and senior lenders in distressed situations and transactions as a member of A&M's North American Commercial Restructuring group. Prior to joining A&M, he was with the assurance practice of Ernst & Young, where he was responsible for providing assurance services to a number of public and private companies. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Duggan formerly served with the private client services group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP where he worked primarily with private clients to assess key performance indicators, analyze financial risk, evaluate internal controls for improvement and provide audit reports. He has experience across several industries, including automotive, print media, plastics and retail apparel.
Mr. McDonnell previously was a manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP working in the transaction services and assurance and business advisory services practices where he specialized in providing financial and accounting due diligence services for private equity and strategic buyers. Before that, he worked for R.A. Hall & Co. providing tax and business advisory services to individual and small business clients. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Zugale was previously a senior associate with the assurance and advisory services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP in Boston, where he primarily provided assurance services for multiple SEC registrants within the semiconductor, military/aerospace and software industries.
Mr. Howe has an extensive background in transactional and general corporate tax matters including advising financial and strategic investors on tax aspects associated with mergers and acquisitions and other transactional related matters including leveraged buyouts, reorganizations, spin-offs, cross-border financing and cash repatriation. Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, he was a senior manager with the transaction advisory services practice of Ernst & Young. Earlier in his career he was with Deloitte & Touche and Arthur Andersen. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Hoehne has significant experience in private equity, corporate and individual tax and accounting matters, including mergers and acquisitions, tax planning and tax controversy matters. Prior to joining A&M, he was with the transaction advisory services group of FTI Consulting, Inc. and the mergers and acquisitions tax group of Ernst & Young. He is a certified public accountant.
